Manado and Bunaken Island - North Sulawesi

As we get closer to the homestretch of our time in Indonesia, we are travelling more and more around the country. On 23 March 2012 we flew to Manado in North Sulawesi for a few days to explore the sea around Bunaken Island.

An excellent getaway, the snorkeling and diving at Bunaken is pretty stunning. Due to the high number of European divers that come here all the accommodation prices are in Euros. We stayed at KusKus Resort, the only fully Indonesian-owned resort on Bunaken.

Candice dived for the first time and I did a couple of refresher dives. Definitely worth checking out if you’re into scuba!

We also had the honour of being invited to a Minahasa wedding. Most people in North Sulawesi are Christian and so pork and dog meat (known as erweh) were on the menu! And yes we tried dog meat...it was...interesting.
